The Buckingham Murders Review

Story

A grieving cop Jasmeet Bhamra (played by Kareena Kapoor) loses her child to murder and moves to another town where she’s tasked with investigating the disappearance of a missing child. Exploring themes of trauma, grief, and the immigrant experience, Jasmeet faces new challenges and tries to mend ways with her trauma.

What’s good

Kareena Kapoor’s performance: Hands down, Kareena is one of the best talents we have in Bollywood. But we like this new shift in her career where she is not just opting for commercial movies but some artistic and content-driven movies as well. After Jaane Jaan, Kareena comes back with a hard-hitting performance yet again in The Buckingham Murders. She is outdoing herself in every movie and this movie is no exception. Despite a dull storyline, Kareena is the one that will keep you hooked throughout the movie. She keeps everything raw and natural from her expressions to her appearance. She slays for sure.

Pace of the film: The movie runs well and doesn’t leave you restless or worked up. Even though it doesn’t have an engaging plot, the story is crisp and not dragged. It is nicely edited by editor Amitesh Mukherjee, only highlighting the right parts instead of making it dramatic. The movie wraps up in 1 hour and 49 minutes, there’s not a single moment where you will feel that certain scenes need to be chopped. Everything adds perfectly to the narrative, making it unfussy and tiring.

What’s not

Screenplay: The movie is packed as a serious and intense movie that solves a murder case; however, the narrative is not compelling enough to grab your attention. The entire movie is based on one murder case where Kareena goes all out and about to crack. Unfortunately, the predictability of the story kills the movie-watching experience. You won’t find any twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat and that’s leaves

Script Analysis

The story goes back and forth with past and present life. You will see Jasmeet struggling to solve the case despite having a traumatic baggage on her shoulders. You will find her smiling in the past and have a grumpy face in the present life. As she begins investigating the case, her past events flashes in front of her eyes and she tries to move through the case. The movie doesn’t waste time in establishing the characters but it starts from the word go. However, the first half can be a tad bit exhausting and it’s mostly the execution. But as the movie proceeds, you start putting things into the place and the story gets predictable. You automatically start suspecting the person who anyone would least suspect. Won’t say it is whodunnit thriller but kudos to Hansal Mehta for this murder mystery which is probably his first film in this genre. Nevertheless, the movie somewhere lacks the mysterious elements.

Conclusion

Concluding the review, The Buckingham Murders is not about multiple murders but only one. Kareena Kapoor delivers a solid performance and her strong portrayal will make you realise about her impeccable talent. She effortlessly carries the movie on her shoulders; however, the story is strictly mediocre. It comes across as an intense drama but the spark of mystery lacks in this one.
